These DaGuan lacquer pens combine traditional Chinese urushi techniques with silver leaf artistry. Each pen requires approximately three months to complete.
Construction:
- Hard rubber body core
- Multiple coats of natural urushi lacquer
- Hand-applied silver leaf beneath transparent colored lacquer
- Available in Golden Leaves and Jade Green variants
What makes them unique: The silver leaf is applied by hand while the lacquer is at the right consistency. This creates organic patterns that vary naturally – no two pens look identical. Instead of traditional motifs, we focus on pure color and light interaction.
The challenge: Silver leaf is extremely delicate. Controlling its placement by hand requires precise timing, which is why each pen shows subtle variations in the patterns.ue while maintaining the refined aesthetics of Chinese craftsmanship.
Materials:
- Hard rubber body (no other components except nib)
- Natural Chinese urushi lacquer
- Silver leaf
- Transparent colored lacquer topcoat
Process:
- Hard rubber body preparation
- Multiple base coats of urushi lacquer
- Silver leaf application by hand
- Transparent color finishing
- Hand polishing
Why it takes 3 months: Each lacquer layer must cure completely before the next application. Silver leaf timing is critical – too early or too late and the adhesion fails.
