Q: Why choose a pull-cap design instead of a threaded cap?
A: Our previous products did use threaded caps, but we encountered two issues: first, threaded caps don’t seal as well as pull caps; second, due to our shorter grip section, the threaded connection between cap and barrel sits at the front of the grip, which could cause the entire grip section to get stuck inside the cap and become impossible to remove.
While pull caps may loosen over time, we design new pens with slightly tight caps that become perfectly smooth after some use. We’re also researching better structural designs that ensure both airtight sealing and long-term durability for collectors.
Q: Will the wood crack or deform?
A: We must be honest – no wooden fountain pen can completely avoid cracking issues. However, our wood materials are naturally air-dried for months or even years, making them relatively stable. Unless exposed to extreme climates (excessive humidity or dryness), they typically won’t crack under normal conditions. Daily use of the pen actually helps protect and maintain it.
Q: Can the nib be replaced?
A: Yes. XiaoZhuo currently uses Schmidt #5 nibs (previous batches also used Bock #5 nibs). You can easily replace them with different nib sizes according to your preference.
Q: What ink should I use?
A: Due to its compact size, XiaoZhuo only accepts cartridges, not converters. It uses European standard cartridges, so cartridges from brands like Faber-Castell, Kaweco, and Schneider are all compatible.
Q: Does the pen write immediately after long storage?
A: Yes. Our custom inner sleeve system creates an airtight seal that keeps ink fresh for weeks. Pick up your pen after a month in storage, and it writes perfectly on the first stroke – no shaking or waiting required.
